It is an interactive project where I acts as an “intelligent agent,” engaging in deep conversations with participants to translate and visualize their dreams.
Built on the idea that dreams are the most primal and authentic primal tongue of our inner world,
the project systematically processes these narratives
and transforms them into paintings.
Like a primal tongue, dreams require no translation
- they reflect subconscious emotions, desires,
and thoughts in their purest form.
Through dialogue and intuitive drawing,
I helps participants rediscover themselves
by turning their dreams into images.
Each artwork serves as a mirror of the participant’s inner world,
free from conventional rational thought,
providing a visual clue for self-exploration.
Unlike AI tools that rely solely on algorithms,
Chat AMP does not apply predefined artistic styles or filters.
Instead, I engages participants in conversation
to uncover the raw visual symbols buried deep in their subconscious.
This process raises a fundamental question
in an era of widespread AI applications:
What is the human’s role in human-machine collaboration?
First tested in a small-scale public trial in Shanghai in March 2023,
Chat AMP was further developed during Yuan Shui’s residency
at the By Art Matters Art Museum in Hangzhou in 2024.
The project expanded its visual scope and deepened its conceptual foundation,
using dream visualization as a means for participants to
reconnect with their most primal tongue — their dreams.
